Just add sunscreen.

Various Artists
Craze: Miami Heat
Cartel/System Recordings

Just add sunscreen. Some artists are blessed with the innate ability to seamlessly interweave predefined musical styles, creating hybrids all their own, blurring lines and redefining boundaries. Such is the case with DJ Craze Miami Heat, his latest in a series of sonic beat-downs, proves it. Blending hip-hop influenced jungle, live club-style mixing and tastefully executed effecting with scratching skills that he no longer has to prove, Craze injects a finely tuned, expertly controlled energy into this album that permeates throughout the whole of the disc, from the first beat to the last. Simply put, this CD feels good. Mixing flowing melodies, smooth vocal lines and thick bassy beats in and out of each other like they were born for one another, the three-time DMC world champion demonstrates to listeners exactly why he makes the big bucks. With such a broad (and notoriously demanding) fanbase to please and such a diverse skill set to work with, many artists would wilt under the pressure, ending up either leaning too much to one style or playing it too safe and ending up with something that sucks. Craze, in contrast, not only dishes out an edgy, underground, across the board crowd-pleaser, but makes it sound easy. True to it’s name, this disc is Miami hot. Bump it in the car or the crib and experience it for yourself – just don’t forget your sunscreen.
