Kings Of Jazz
Compiled by Gilles Peterson and Jazzanova
BBE/Rapster
This series has turned out to be an educational one. With each installation focusing on a particular genre, and the compilers being experts in their field, Kings Of can teach you all you need to know. Gilles Peterson and Jazzanova are the aptly-chosen ones to school you on Kings Of Jazz. The former focuses on classic styles, showing where the origins of the sound stemmed from. Leaning towards the noodly muso side of jazz, Peterson's The History disc is all about the musician's relationship with his instrument. Alternatively, Jazzanova's The Present disc features current jazz interpretations that pay tribute to the earlier works, but put their own twist on the sound. In other words it is all about the producer's relationship with his studio.
