Naked Rhythm Frequency Caravan Records
“World Electronica.” Yes, another category for your music collection. Alex Spurkel (formerly drummer for Electric Skychurch) and Avi Sills make up Naked Rhythm. On Frequency they embark on a musical journey that takes you many a mile. Middle-Eastern, Latin, Brazilian, Indian and hip hop are all along for the ride. The first track, “Deep Lotus” lives up to its name with sitars, chanting vocals, and sensual females wailing in the background. This song is perfect to emerge from a yoga session. But the second song gives us a rap that is mellower than most hip hop songs but is still an awkward follow up. This is the album’s only flaw. Then it is back to Indian and Tibetan instrumentation and then on to smooth Latin guitar house. The whole album possesses a sensual feel and even though the tracks vary in style, this album is a great joy to listen to in its complete form. |
