Ian Boddy Elemental Din
In 1980 Ian Boddy put out his first release, available only on cassette. Now with his own label, Din, he’s celebrating a 25th release (on CD): Elemental. This is ambient pure and distilled. Each sound has its own strong character. Years of working with music pioneers: Robert Rich, Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle), and Markus Rueter shows through the deep roundness of the songs. Orchestral waves with Asian strings float though the selections while the electric of synthesizers define others. Boddy has a talent of having a lot of space in his songs without sounding minimal and, going dark without being menacing. The bass in his songs appear with a classical character. There are melodies but no one part over defines a song. His last two releases were more spacey while this goes more toward the soundtrack mood. Ambient at its best and most interesting.
