Sia Lady Croissant Astralwerks
Although Zero 7 brought attention to Sia with some of their most notable songs featuring her unique vocals, after her song “Breathe” was showcased in the Six Feet Under series finale, Sia eclipsed her benefactors. Lady Croissant is a live recording from Sia’s show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom during her tour for her debut domestic full-length, Colour The Small One. Sia’s live performances are even more forceful than her recorded ones. Unself-conscious about how she might be coming across, it’s all about getting to the heart of the song. The nasal factor of her poky vocal style is intensified in a way that rather than becoming annoying betrays how deep she has gone into the tune. On her solo interpretation of Zero 7’s “Destiny,” a song she wasn’t the vocalist for originally, she takes it to another level of passion that was never present in their version. The accompaniment of a full band, including a powerful string section, takes simple compositions and fills them out to such a degree you feel like you’re witnessing them a grand stage. Opening Lady Croissant is a new studio song, “Pictures,” which hints at a more playful and lively side to Sia’s writing. |
