| Six hours. One DJ. One room. Sounds like something to be avoided. But people haven’t stopped raving (no pun intended) about Tiësto’s last one-man show. Some overheard quotes: “ I don’t even listen to trance anymore and I still loved it,” or, “He rocked it!” Tiesto has delivered full energy trance sets earning him the number one DJ position the last five years. Off to the Los Angeles Sports Arena and a sold out crowd of 16,000. The price on the door was $65. And what did that get you? A spectacular light show? No. Fabulous lasers? No. Great sound? No. Interesting music? No. Music that was cutting the edge of trance? No. Or did you get a powerful set of trance classics? No. If anything, the last hour was a lazy collection of oldies that left the crowd waiting for more. A fun crowd? No. Half the crowd was stuck- up bored couples on a date. Bathroom lines? Yes. The VIP area was nice, with comfy chairs and cute decorated trees, but was it worth the extra $35? No. In 2005 the show had more live elements, Cirque de Soleil dancers, violinists, and a fuller light show. If you’re going to downscale your show you should also downscale your price. |
