Only for the dance floor

|

Pet Shop Boys Disco 3 Sanctuary Records Release date: February 4, 2003
Whether they decide to focus on studio sounds or go the dance floor direction, the Pet Shop Boys always remember their faithful club following. Systematically releasing strictly dance remix albums alongside their regular albums, Disco 3 continues that tradition as the accompaniment to their 2002 album, Release. A switch for them, Release was a stripped down, acoustic-based attempt for the Pet Shop Boys. Hence, the re-workings of those tracks are noticeable steps away from the originals. There are some definite hits such as the high energy “Time On My Hands,” the happy Blank and Jones mix of “Home And Dry,” and the hands-in-the-air winner “Positive Role Model.” But then there are some seriously cheesy moments such as the hackneyed percolating movements on “Here (PSB New Extended Mix)” and the vocodered “If Looks Could Kill.” The three piece vinyl version has additional mixes including three uninspired versions of “London” Thee Radikal Blaklit Dub, Thee Radikal Blaklit Mix, and WestBam In Berlin Mix, plus the dub take on “Here.” Altogether, this is a half right/half wrong effort. Take your chances.
