More Tosca, less K&D?

|

Tosca Dehli 9 G Stone Recordings/!K7 Records Release date: February 25, 2003
Starting with a cool tune of laid-back high hats and ‘60s reminiscent vocals, this promised to be a chill CD. But the mood quickly turns to that of downtempo. A dub beat, piano and an array of arty vocalists are the basis for this CD. Richard Dorfmeister (of “Kruder and” fame) and Rupert Huber take familiar elements and layer them with creativity. Dehli 9 was the name of their former band where they first experimented with electronica and some of that art-school-feel still holds over. The CD waves back in forth from light and breezy to dark and serious, which makes for a somewhat unpleasant listen. The songs work better as separated pieces. The laid back feeling combined with upfront style and experimentation does give for some unique tunes. The second CD is a minimal piano piece in the Phillip Glass mode. Do with that what you will. |
