"Why have I made this record? Well, see, there was this night in Glasgow in December of 2002...it was the last night of the European tour for "18", and to celebrate we went to an underground party in some abandoned railway tunnels (outside, mind you, in December in Glasgow...very cold...). And even though the abandoned railway tunnels were cold and damp (and smelly), it ended up being an amazing party, largely because of the music. The DJs were playing hard, sexy, straightforward dance music, and it was perfect. I was reminded of just how much I love hard, sexy, straightforward dance music, and when I arrived home the next day I decided to make a simple, straightforward dance record. I wanted to make a record that would somehow remind me of the best underground clubs that I had been to over the last couple of years. Not an experimental record, not an avant-garde record, but a straightforward, underground, electronic dance record. and that's why I made this record under the name "Voodoo Child." By making it under the name "Voodoo Child" I could just concentrate on the music, and not worry about singles or videos or promotion (or even record sales...I'm under no illusions in making an underground dance record. I'm not expecting it to sell millions of copies...). I guess that I could've avoided writing this little essay and instead have summed it up in one simple sentence: I love electronic dance music, and that's why I made this record...and I hope that you like it. Thanks."
